Hi! Here are a couple of bracelets I made from a bundle of rope. Cost me a dollar at the hardware store. I like the neutral color and texture of cotton rope, but other chord or leather would do nicely too.
I found the sailor's braid tutorial on this neat, new-to-me blog, More Design Please. I don't think I could do a better job of explaining the braid (it boggled my mind at first, I admit). After getting the hang of it, I'm hooked. Perhaps I'll sailor's braid my hair next ...

oooo i must try this! and they look like they would be easy to dye as well so you could have lots of colours.
ReplyDeletebtw i bought some more thread yesterday so i'll be knotting away this week and will send you something very soon.
love love love them! (and they look super cute with your outfit!)
ReplyDeleteLooks fantastic! I'm tempted to try but I'm the kind of person who, if I don't get it right the first time, I lose interest. The tutorial does make it look kind of easy though, maybe I'll have a go. They'd be perfect for our upcoming summer.
ReplyDeleteThanks guys!
ReplyDeleteSJ, dyed ones would be so cool. Maybe even like an ombre dip dye job? P.S. I'm excited for our swap!
Annelise, it was a little confusing at first. Maybe you're a natural though and you'll figure it out right away. Good luck! :)
I love these, I have been wanting to learn how to make them since the 4th grade, love!
ReplyDeletei too have been loving these for a while. i've looked at several tutorials and have just given up. i'm sure i just need to actually DO it along with the tutorial instead of looking at it. nice work!

ReplyDeleteHow long did it take to make one bracelet?
ReplyDeleteHi Jaclyn. It took me about 10 minutes. Once you understand the pattern (it took me a couple of tries) it goes pretty quickly.
